‘Succession’ Season 4 Is Coming (Here’s What We Know So Far)

Succession is officially returning for a fourth season, and buzz is already building about the next installment of the family business drama. In case you’ve been sleeping on the clever and darkly funny drama from HBO, the series follows the Roy family, which owns a media conglomerate headed by domineering patriarch Logan Roy (Brian Cox). But as Logan ages and his health wanes, his wife, adult children, and longtime colleagues start battling it out to see who will take control of the family business.

Where we last left off, Shiv (Sarah Snook) joined forces with her brothers Kendall (Jeremy Strong) and Roman (Kieran Culkin) to stop Logan from selling the company, but the joke was on them because Tom (Matthew Macfadyen) double-crossed Shiv and got into bed (metaphorically) with his father-in-law.

So what will happen next on Succession ? Here’s what we know:

Production of Succession Season 4 Is Underway

Per an Instagram post by Succession ’s official Instagram account, filming is in progress.

The Plot

Per HBO: “The sale of media conglomerate Waystar Royco to tech visionary Lukas Matsson moves ever closer. The prospect of this seismic sale provokes existential angst and familial division among the Roys as they anticipate what their lives will look like once the deal is completed. A power struggle ensues as the family weighs up a future where their cultural and political weight is severely curtailed.”

The Cast

The core of the cast will return, including Brian Cox as Logan Roy, Jeremy Strong as Kendall Roy, Sarah Snook as Siobhan “Shiv” Roy, Kieran Culkin as Roman Roy, Nicholas Braun as Cousin Greg, Matthew Macfadyen as Tom Wambsgans, Alan Ruck as Connor Roy, J. Smith-Cameron as Gerri Kellman, and Alexander Skarsgård as Lukas Matsson. We suspect there will be a few surprise cast members revealed later as we get closer to the release date.

Greg Mans Up

Rumor has it that everyone’s favorite dork, Cousin Greg, is going to stop whimpering and cowering in the corner and instead become the badass he’s always been destined to be. In an interview with Deadline, Nicholas Braun intimated that Greg “shifts into another gear” in Season 4. “He’s like, ‘Take me to the dark side,’” he said. We can’t wait to see that.

Length

Season 4 of Succession will consist of 10 hour-long episodes. That gives viewers one more episode than the previous season, but the same amount of family drama as the first two seasons of the show.

What we don’t know is when Season 4 will drop, but estimates suggest the first half of 2023 is a safe bet. And, no, there isn’t a trailer yet. Until you can get your next dose of the Roy family and all its toxic mixing of business with pleasure, you’ll have to revisit the previous seasons, which are streaming now on HBO Max.
