Trevor Noah Is Leaving ‘The Daily Show’ After 7 Years (Here’s What – And Who – He’s Going to Do Next)

Late-night talk shows are unforgivably homogenous . It seems as if every single one is manned by a white guy named Jimmy. Or Jon. Or Steven. Of course, there are a few exceptions. Take Trevor Noah, the South African comedian who has been behind the desk at The Daily Show for the past seven years. He took over in 2015 when Jon Stewart stepped down.

Unfortunately, Noah is hanging up his hat now, too. After covering major events like the Trump presidency, the pandemic, and…well…more pandemic, the 38-year-old has had enough.

“My time is up,” he said in a viral clip as the live audience gasped. “But in the most beautiful way. Honestly. I’ve loved hosting this show. It’s been one of my greatest challenges. It’s been one of my greatest joys. I’ve loved trying to figure out how to make people laugh even when the stories are particularly shitty on the worst days.”

Noah went on to explain that after being stuck in his apartment for two years, he got back on the road and realized that “there’s another part of my life that I want to carry on exploring.” He wants to travel, learn new languages, do shows, and be “everywhere doing everything.”

In conclusion, he said, “I want to say thank you, because man, I never dreamed that I would be here.”

It’s unclear exactly when Noah is leaving, but his departure is definitely happening. Comedy Central released a statement to Variety in which it said it is “grateful to Trevor for our amazing partnership over the past seven years.”

“We’re working together on next steps,” the network continued, adding that there is no timetable for Noah’s departure. “As we look ahead, we’re excited for the next chapter in the 25+ year history of ‘The Daily Show’ as it continues to redefine culture through sharp and hilarious social commentary, helping audiences make sense of the world around them.”

While Noah was trending on social media following the announcement, another tidbit of news surrounding him started ranking even higher…he’s dating Dua Lipa now?

Huh. Well, that will certainly keep him busy in his TV retirement. Godspeed, good sir.
